Golden Circle: Small Group, Bus or Private?

On a Golden Circle day the format decides how many people get off the bus with you, where you are collected and how long you get at each stop. A big bus

The bus days are the cheapest and give you the most time at the stops for the money: BusTravel Iceland’s spends 80 minutes at Geysir and 45 at Gullfoss and at Thingvellir. The cost is the crowd. Of the 350 most recent reviews of BusTravel Iceland’s day, the newest dated 7 November 2026, 16 gave three stars or fewer, and the complaints were bus-sized: a crowd at one pickup stop, a departure moved the day before, a smaller replacement bus, seats tight for tall people.

Pickup is usually extra on these days. BusTravel Iceland’s cheapest option meets at Bus Stop 12; Gray Line Iceland and ICELANDIA start at the BSÍ Bus Terminal and offer pickup as a separate option.

A small group

“Small” means different things. Nicetravel gives a number, no more than 19; Adventure Vikings limits its tour to 12; Arctic Adventures guarantees a small group on both its tours without a figure. What they share is pickup in the price. Both Arctic Adventures tours also pay the Kerið fee, Nicetravel’s includes a Kerið visit, and Adventure Vikings' includes a late lunch at the Friðheimar tomato farm instead.

Arctic Adventures’ afternoon tour is the short one, 6 hours with 25 minutes at Thingvellir, 20 at Gullfoss, 45 at Geysir and 20 at Kerið. If you want longer at each, its small-group full day gives 45 minutes to an hour at each of the four sights in 8 hours, starting in Hveragerði and Kerið like BusTravel Iceland’s bus.

A private car

Private tours are priced per group of up to 3, so they make sense for a family or a group of friends who want their own pace. Tulip Tours Iceland sends a driver-guide in an MPV or a van to your accommodation, spends an hour at Geysir and stops at Kerið; it is not for wheelchair users, pregnant women or people with back problems. Aurora Globe guides in Arabic or English, includes the Kerið entry fee and a hot drink, and can collect you at Keflavik Airport, which turns an arrival day into a Golden Circle day.
